Ireland and Switzerland top the table — Irish weddings are among the most expensive in Europe, and Swiss costs track the country's high price level. The UK is the most affordable of the six on average. But every one of these is an average hiding a huge range: the same couple could spend a third of these figures or triple them.

The three levers that actually move the bill
- Guest count. Because venue + catering is per-head and dominates the budget, cutting the list is by far the most powerful lever. Going from 150 to 80 guests can cut the total by a third.
- Date. Off-peak months and weekday/Sunday dates routinely save 20–40% on venue and supplier rates.
- Music. A DJ instead of a live band typically saves a four-figure sum on its own.
Don't finance the wedding with debt. Couples who put a wedding on credit cards or a loan can pay thousands in interest on top of the day itself. A slightly longer engagement to save, or a smaller guest list, beats starting married life in the red — in every country.
