What are the private health insurance rebate tiers for 2025–26?

For under-65 singles: Tier 0 (≤$97,000) = 24.608%, Tier 1 ($97,001–$113,000) = 16.405%, Tier 2 ($113,001–$151,000) = 8.202%, Tier 3 (>$151,000) = 0%. Rates are higher at ages 65–69 and 70+. Family thresholds are double, plus $1,500 per child after the first.

How is the Medicare Levy Surcharge calculated?

If you do not hold private hospital cover and earn above the threshold, you pay 1% (Tier 1), 1.25% (Tier 2) or 1.5% (Tier 3) of your income for surcharge purposes, on top of the standard 2% Medicare levy.

Is private hospital cover cheaper than the surcharge?
